This poem was popular in the 1990s, especially during the height of the
Chicken Soup for the Soul phenomenon. But after that, it seemed to disappear into obscurity once more. At least, I have not seen it quoted in decades. So I thought I would share it here:
If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain;
If I can ease one life the aching,
Or cool one pain,
Or help one fainting robin
Unto his nest again,
I shall not live in vain.
